...My worse nightmare...

Where to begin, where to begin...

*sigh* This has probably been one of the most stressful events of my personal life that I have ever endured. Ok, to begin; I noticed that MSN Messenger version 8.5 has constantly pestered me to update and download the new 9.0 version.

All right, I conceded, and started to download the program/update. About 10 minutes after the download, I start installing it, everything is going great. I mean this is something new and my computer should be compatible with. Well, it turns out when I put my login information, it would start signing in-- so far so good; but then it decides to not completely sign in making it completely irritating. So I try again... and again and again and again... same results...

Ok- idea, I'll just see if anyone has any information on online forums that have endured this problem before. It turns out, many believe its through the registry system where the problem lies, or maybe in the add/remove program where I must delete and try to re-install it again just to be sure there are no errors. Fair enough, I start to do that. And re-install, then try to sign in again... crap... same results as the last. As I try to find out which .dll file is the culprit, I start to read more and more into forums and it seems a lot of people have the same problem but no one is providing an absolute solution; after trying 20 different sequences of un-installing, re-installing, going through .dll files and deleting the manually, nothing worked... go figure.

All right, my last 100% fool proof method: Reformat my C:\ drive and forget about Windows Live Messenger; I could be missing much...

Ok, I made sure all of my music, pictures, wallpapers, games and everything I held dear in the computer world to be stored onto my 300 GB external hard drive. Wicked, I reformat. When I try to set up Final Fantasy XI, there seems to be a problem, it needed me to re-install the PlayOnline Viewer, no problem, I just pop in the CD and 'voila'-- right?... wrong! It turns out the CD has some files missing on its own... really- how the fuck did that happen? Was the CD scratched? Of course not, I've only used the Compact Discs no more than 3 times each to re-install the game.

When I re-install the game and wait for to update aware that there were still files corrupted and missing and assuming the update would fix it, I don't sweat it. Until I find that I am on my 4th try in attempt to get it to run the game without any errors... damn-- ok.

Moving on, I reformat and notice that the reformat was messing with my external hard drive, I somewhat ignore and assume that it was just talking about my C:\'s size, and foolish me, I let it screw with my external.

Now, I have an E:\ that cannot be opened appropriately unless it is reformatted and no computer I have in the house will do that and I had to download a torrent to do a recovery to prevent from the loss of all my data.

Here is a list of what I had on there and an estimate of how much space it held:

Music (Oh god- too many bands to list) - 23 GBs
Pictures (Some irreplaceable...) - 4 GBs
Wallpapers (Some I made or had made for me) -10 GBs
Games (Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, WoW, Battlefield 2/2142) ~40GBs

Oh-- before all this happened, there was an instance where I was trying to copy files off a CD and put it into a zip drive-- apparently, I mistyped and had over 107k of these little .rar bastards running around on the E:\ and had to delete them in clusters... PEOPLE... YouTube videos do NOT make good instructors... long story short, I read instead of copied what they did on a video.

*phew*...

I made have to take a week to re-download a LOT of files back onto my computer and not trust updating this old machine for quite a while; I mean I was freaking out that I believed I had lost all of my files.

Advice:
XP, stay where you are, don't update or go near what Vista has...
Get two external hard drives or find a place to store just in case it decides to go... to retarded ville...

Fucking hell- so much stuff to recover and it could take more than a day to recover it all, I hope I have my music and my torrents because... my god... I may have DSL but its a pain to let anything take an hour to download.

I saw the Indiana Jones movie (the latest one about the Crystal Skull) at John's today and I got a call from Mike, but I had to do some driving and I am paranoid of getting a ticket but karma was bored and decided to do an anti-deus ex on me... and put a traffic jam... anyways, the film was "entertaining" but something didn't seem very "adventurey" about the franchise... I don't know- I am not too much of a critic.

I met with one of my friends over the weekend that I play Final Fantasy with, because he had moved to Federal Way and we hung out and went to see District 9, a very good film, I really recommend if you're into a 'conspiracy' setting.

My DVD and beanie FINALLY came in the mail-- after 6 weeks of waiting. I mean really, it doesn't take something so small to travel from the East to the West... just... fail.

I am really trying to keep my cool....

I have so much to consider with college now, for example, I have to take about 40 more upper division courses which I have decided to make into a computer math science class which I forgot the name to but it seems simple enough for me and I am also going to continue to take Japanese. My mom tried to talk me out of it but- she had agreed previously and somehow she believed something was going to work... I hate it when you close an argument and put logic in the picture and someone comes back and brings it back up again... *sigh*

Well, I am dead tired now and very irritable and I have a lot of work ahead of me... Karma... fuck off.

  2. Hahaha After XP crashed for me, I tried to reinstall it, but the disc was "not operational" which. I guess I could kind of understand since it was old and a bootleg XD. I installed Vista and I had a problem after like a week of using it. It kept saying that it wasn't valid, even though I used the CD that came with my laptop. *Had no idea that it would work actually*

After I installed some update, everything got better.... for a little while. It's been a while since I've plugged in my desktop. :/ I need to do that and see if I'm still having issues with my HD. I'll get on the Windows 7 train eventually hahaha
