Ok! So I fulfilled my first resolution: Got a job! And its a nice job-- to an extent. I was really baffled with the idea of what I had to do in order to get there.. I originally thought I had to take a mountain of buses to get there but that wasn't the case. Apparently, I only need to take one bus and walk a block and a half and I am there at work. Fair enough. All I really do is sit at a gate and during my shift every hour or so I go out and relieve the other posts of their position so they can get something to eat or warm up from being in the cold etc. etc. Not a bad job at all.
During the training though-- ugh... never gonna forget that. It was me, a black guy (Ray) who happens to be Muslim also, and our instructor- who looked a lot like Aaron McNeville but a little buffer. Honestly scared the hell out of me. Well, we were doing great in the class until this one part where he asked to see my wallet (NATUALLY: I do not let people touch my wallet but I thought he was doing a memory exercise and not this) He looks through my wallet and pulls everything out and asked if my license was in there- I said yes and he said I had failed the class. I caught what he was doing immediately but I played along with it to give the impression I learned an important lesson. In actuality he wanted to show that you never hand your license to anyone because if they have it, you are screwed so I held my head down in "shame" to make it look like I failed. I knew what he was doing but I thought I play along with it (really I do play along with people's jokes to make them feel good) he then had a laugh and said that people previous have actually cried and walked out the door before he had to stop them so he could tell them it was just a lesson.
After all that I had to take a written test, I scored a 95% on it easily only missed 2 questions because they-- well, I dunno. Moving on, getting to work was easy and all I do is this: Sit a post and look through people's bag without putting my hands in the bag and making sure they go through the metal detector ok. Easy job! I can't take pictures of where I work because if they get out, then people who may want to break in can use those pictures to find a way to get in easily... although its impossible really (I tried to think of a way). I can read books and such and use a laptop if I had one. Ah well.
Now- for the pay, I would work for about 4 hours (1800-2200) and get paid about 9/hr so I work M-F and then that turns out to be 180. I deducted 30 dollars for the bus pass, 40 dollars for taxes 10 bucks for fuel a week (I really don't drive that far) and I make about a 100 a week, but then I give some cash to my folks to help them out... and yeah after all that about 60 bucks belong to me. Now given that's all the costs put to the extreme.
For now, I will look to see if I can get more hours (I was assured that I am on the list to be given more hours when ever I get the call and more pay for me) I will work towards getting full time positions hopefully.
Ok, new years... when I got home because I wasn't supposed to be there after 5 but the people at UPS took their time getting home, I got home around 10pm after being there from 8 am and waking up at 5 am... yeah you see how this looks. I got home ate a piece of bread and faceplanted my pillow. I was hellah tired. But at least I know I made some good cash that day.
